Government Launches Green Homes Grant Scheme

The UK government launches a £2billion grant that will help homeowners save costs on making energy efficient improvements.
As part of the Government’s wider green package, the Green Homes Grant Scheme will be open for applications at the end of this month and will provide a voucher of maximum £10,000 to help cover the cost of environmental home improvements.
Currently, a fifth of UK greenhouse gas emissions is produced by heating buildings. To help lower this, the Government aims to cover two-thirds of the cost of qualifying energy efficiency or low carbon heating improvements to your home. This could not only help to lower greenhouse gas emissions, but also help families save up to £600 per year in household energy bills.
What Does the Green Homes Grant Scheme Cover?
The Green Homes Grant Scheme will give homeowners, long leaseholders, those with shared ownership, landlords of domestic properties, and park homeowners vouchers to complete at least one primary measure before 31st of March 2021.
These primary measures include:
- Solid wall insulation
- Under-floor insulation
- Cavity wall insulation or roof insulation
- Air source heat pump or ground source heat pump
- Solar thermal heating
After installing at least one of the primary measures, homeowners can install additional secondary measures. These are usually upgrades to already existing features, such as:
- Double or triple glazed windows
- Energy efficient doors
- Hot water or appliance tank thermostats or heating controls
Prior to deciding which improvement to make, it is recommended to get an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) so you can make an informed decision on the environmental home improvement you’d like to make.
