Hyperion® wood-plastic composite cladding (WPC Cladding) is engineered from an innovative composition of 60% FSC® certified wood reclaimed from post-industrial manufacturing and 40% recycled High Density Polyethylene, environmentally gentle bonding agent, additives and tint. Saving these materials from landfill, giving them value and recycling them into a long life product, provides a harmonious solution to sustainable living.

Highly versatile Hyperion® Cladding comes with 15 year limited residential warranty against splits, splinters, rot and fungal decay. This low maintenance solution is therefore the perfect choice for any commercial area or residential cladding.

Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQ

What is composite cladding?

Composite cladding (wood plastic composite or WPC) is a low maintenance, anti-rot, weatherproof facade that is engineered from a blend of wood and plastic. The unique combination of materials make for cladding that looks like wood but has the longevity and resilience of plastic. Cladding has various functions: it protects exterior walls, it can add insulation, and it improves the overall aesthetics of a structure.

What are the benefits of composite cladding vs timber?

Composite cladding needs far less maintenance than traditional timber cladding. It never needs to be sealed, stained or painted and the boards won’t warp, splinter or crack. On top of this, the plastic content means that the boards have a longer lifespan and are resistant to rot, damp and insects. As the cladding does not rot and never needs to be treated, you save every year over standard wood products.

Where can I use composite cladding?

Our composite cladding range can be used in a variety of locations, both residential and commercial, and is built to withstand all types of weather. It can be installed on summer homes or sheds, as fence screening, cladding façades on apartment blocks or to easily hide unsightly exterior walls.

For inspiration you can check out our Instagram or read through our case studies.

As this is an external building covering, you must ensure you consult with your local building control to determine fire classification project requirements. Hyperion Cladding is classified D–s1, d0 Reaction to Fire (EN13501-1).

Can composite cladding be painted?

Hyperion products are already coloured so they do not require painting. Due to the plastic content within composite cladding there is no need for any further treatment. This also makes it easy to clean.

Technically, yes, we have seen examples of people painting their composite cladding, but we do not recommend painting as it may void your warranty.

Does composite cladding fade?

Our Pioneer and Sentinel cladding boards are uncapped and will lighten as they naturally weather over the first 2-3 months of outdoor exposure before stabilising. The board lightening is caused by rain washing out naturally occurring wood oils (called tannins) and natural lightening from UV exposure.

The colour change is most noticeable in the lighter colours of our ranges: Oak, Silver Birch and Stone, where the contrast between the coloured tannins and initial board colour is greater. If you would like to speed up the tannin process we recommend spraying your composite product with water a couple of days in a row.

Material specifications

How long does composite cladding last?

Composites, unlike traditional wood cladding, have a long service life and do not require costly and time-consuming maintenance or replacement. If installed correctly according to our technical installation guide our composite cladding comes with up to 15 year limited residential warranty and up to 10 year commercial warranty, but we expect it to last way beyond that!

How do I calculate how much composite cladding I will need?

You can use our online cladding calculator to work out how much material you will require.

First, you will need to take some measurements of your proposed cladding area to get an accurate estimate. Enter the measurements into the calculator and it will tell you exactly what you need - it’s as easy as that!

Alternatively, you can call a member of our team on 020 8088 4888 to help work out your project quantities.

Does composite cladding expand?

Yes, composite cladding expands and contracts due to temperature fluctuations. This is important when considering the spacing between cladding boards. Due to natural expansion and contraction of material with changes in temperature, please ensure butt joints have an expansion gap of at least 7mm for 3.6m length boards.

For more detailed information check out our cladding installation guide.

How do I cut composite cladding?

We recommend using a circular saw with a thin kerf 40-tooth alternate top bevel finish blade to achieve the cleanest cuts when cutting composite cladding. If cutting Manticore plastic battens use a tungsten carbide blade instead.

Is composite cladding fireproof?

Our Pioneer range has a Euro Class D fire rating and our Sentinel range has a superior Euro Class B fire rating.

However, there have been some recent changes in cladding regulations, so please ensure you are up to date with the latest legislation. More information on our cladding fire resistance rating.

As this is an external building covering, you must ensure you consult with your local building control to determine fire classification project requirements. Hyperion Cladding is classified D–s1, d0 Reaction to Fire (EN13501-1).

Is composite cladding waterproof?

Hyperion composite cladding is designed to take on very little water. The products have a much lower absorption rate than timber which heavily reduces the likelihood of wet rot over a longer period of time.

How do I get rid of the watermarks on my composite cladding boards?

Stains that look like watermarks are most likely tannin marks. Tannin marks are common on composite products and will disappear after 8-10 weeks of being exposed to the environment. They may be activated by heavy rainfall but should wash away with additional rain.

If you would like to speed up the tannin process we recommend spraying your composite product with water a couple of days in a row. See some examples of tannin marks and find out more about tannin staining.

If you would like more information on tannins or watermarks, or would like to go through your issues with a member of our team please email ops@envirobuild.com.

The Hyperion difference

What is composite cladding made of?

Hyperion cladding boards are made from 60% FSC® certified wood reclaimed from post-industrial manufacturing and 40% recycled High-Density Polyethylene, environmentally friendly bonding agent, additives and tint. Saving these materials from landfill, giving them value and recycling them into a long-life product.

What is the difference between the Pioneer and Sentinel cladding ranges?

The Pioneer boards are available in 2.5 and 3.6 metre lengths and have a Euro Class D fire rating.

The Sentinel range is a slightly longer board at 4 metres and has a better fire rating of Euro Class B.

The hidden fastener system on Sentinel composite boards makes this range even easier to install than the Pioneer cladding boards.

What sizes do your composite cladding boards come in?

Hyperion Pioneer cladding boards come in 2.5m (±5mm) and 3.6m (±5mm) lengths.

Hyperion Sentinel cladding boards come in 4m (±5mm) lengths.

Which size length you should be using will be dependent on the size of your proposed cladding area and aesthetics. Please feel free to consult one of our expert cladding advisors on 020 8088 4888 or email info@envirobuild.com

What colours do your composite cladding boards come in?

Pioneer composite cladding comes in natural browns: Oak, and Walnut, and modern greys: Granite, Stone, and Silver Birch.

The Sentinel range comes in the same variety of colours excluding Silver Birch.

How do I install composite cladding?

Standard woodworking tools can be used when working with Hyperion cladding and both Pioneer and Sentinel ranges can be installed either horizontally or vertically. Due to natural expansion and contraction of material with changes in temperature, pay close attention to gapping requirements.

For detailed instructions you can watch our cladding installation video.

Or, download our cladding installation guide.

How much warranty do you offer on your composite cladding ranges?

The Pioneer and Sentinel ranges both come with up to 15 year limited residential warranty and up to 10 year commercial warranty.
