Designing a Safe, Multi-use Performance and Seating Space
Goat Lees Primary School in Kent commissioned EnviroBuild to deliver an outdoor performance space that could double as a break-time area. The school required a surface that is safe underfoot, durable enough to handle student traffic and school functions and environmentally in line with the school’s BREEAM (sustainability) ethos. The design needed to integrate curved edges and robust safety at the raised edges, while providing a flexible platform for daily use and community events.

Slate Hyperion Frontier Board Specification
The installation used Slate Frontier decking, paired with matching Frontier fascia boards to create smooth, curved transitions. The decking was mounted on treated timber bearers, which in turn were elevated on a subframe built from treated posts, concreted into the ground. Because the deck would be used as a stage and seating area, the subframe was reinforced accordingly for added strength.
Call to Action

“We were looking for a very particular product to complete our outdoor performance space project and EnviroBuild’s composite decking was the ideal solution. The area will be used by our students during lesson time and break time, and so it was crucial that we chose a product that was non-slip and non-splinter.”
