Explorer Silver Birch Decking

Turning a Concrete Patio into a Family Garden by the Sea

In the seaside town of Whitstable, the family wanted to replace a dated concrete patio with a modern garden that reflected their coastal surroundings. Designer Charlotte Burley of Whitstable View Interiors set out to create a space that felt natural, light and easy to maintain. The new layout includes decked pathways, raised beds and a contemporary pivot door that connects the indoor kitchen to the garden.

Silver Birch Decking for a Weathered, Seaside Look

The project features Hyperion Explorer composite decking in Silver Birch, chosen for its natural weathered look and durability in a seaside environment. The non-slip surface makes it ideal for family use, while raised beds filled with coastal planting soften the hard landscaping. Covering 80 m², the finished garden delivers the charm of a weathered beach deck with none of the maintenance of traditional timber, a calm, family-friendly outdoor retreat that echoes its seaside setting.

"We have waited five years to have a finished garden, and when I was creating how I wanted the space to feel, I love living by the coast and wanted that same feeling of having the ‘Natural weathered’ decking, but not wanting the upkeep of wood. I'm sooo pleased with this decking and have been very impressed with the quality and just love the colour."
